The 2010 Out & Equal Workplace Summit – is set for Oct. 5-8 at the Los Angeles Convention Center – and JBC will be there moderating a panel and presenting one of our most popular conference workshops! The Workplace Summit will offer participants more than 100 workshops, networking opportunities, inspiring speakers and the chance to showcase your company as an organization that values LGBT workplace equality.

Registration for the Summit is officially open, so plan to meet the JBC Team in LA!

1. Workshop: High-Impact ERGs: Building a Roadmap to Business Impact

FINAL Workshop Description: ERGs continue to evolve from community-building organizations to those that can have real and sustained impact on the business, from new product development to recruitment and retention to emerging market penetration. Does your ERG have the right structure, talent, and strategy in place to win that coveted “seat at the table”? Will it be able to maximize that opportunity when presented? JBC works with Fortune 500 companies to map this process and prepare ERG leadership, members, and executive sponsors to develop their capabilities to more effectively interact with internal stakeholders and their external communities, to add business value and provide development opportunities that cultivate next generation leaders. This workshop will share the JBC ERG Progression Model and challenge participants to consider their ERG’s value-add in a whole new light.

Workshop Presenters: Jennifer Brown & Brian Sorge

2. Panel on LGBT Inclusion and Generational Differences

ERGs work hard to deliver content-but end up leaving opportunity on the table if output does not align with organizational goals and needs. A strong business foundation and a well-structured plan that builds the business case for ERGs and its projects with clear success metrics is critical to receive buy-in and support from stakeholders. Panel representatives from Cisco and Genentech share tools and strategies for building a solid business plan that will document key project management dimension goals, timelines, success criteria, communication outlets, and more, for each initiative, in order to guide and maximize an ERG’s activities and prove its value to the organization.

Panel Moderator: Jennifer Brown

Do you feel that you have been sabotaged or have seen other women not supported by other women in the workplace? If so, we invite you to attend this session and learn strategies for overcoming such barriers and learn how to become a role model in order to support the advancement and development of other women. By the end of 2010, women will likely make up the majority of the workplace, but are still not in the majority in regards to executive and management level positions. Although there have been so many gains, inequities still exist. Women supporting other women in their advancement and development is a significant piece of the solution to achieving workplace parity. In this session, we will share and have participants practice a dynamic model involving mentorship, coaching, sponsoring, and advocacy to help create a more supportive work environment.

Session Leader: Jennifer Brown

Jennifer with mentor Carlos Dominguez from Cisco.

It was recently announced that Jennifer Brown, President and CEO of Jennifer Brown Consulting, was selected to participate in Cisco’s 2010 Executive Mentor Protégé Program. This program indicates that Cisco has made a commitment to a small handful of woman- and minority-owned suppliers who currently do work with Cisco on a client basis, with the intent to invest in growing the relationship between each supplier and Cisco. In JBC’s case, this growth will mean a continuation and expansion of the well-known leadership development, executive coaching, and diversity and inclusion programs we’ve delivered to the Cisco community.

One of an elite handful of partners chosen, and the only human capital consulting company to be included, JBC has enjoyed a multi-year consulting partnership with many Cisco clients, building cutting-edge team development and leader coaching programs. Jennifer is also considered a subject matter expert in the arena of inclusion and diversity, and her pioneering employee engagement strategies, as well as her work with Employee Resource Groups, were featured as part of last year’s Cisco Inclusion & Diversity Symposium, broadcast company-wide on Cisco TV.
Jennifer and the JBC team are already leveraging the EMP2 program to broaden their business with Cisco, and with Cisco’s partners and customers, as well as spread the word generally about the opportunity of programs such as the EMP2. Jennifer was quoted recently on the relationship between supplier diversity initiatives such as these, and building more inclusive organizations generally:

“We are so honored to be chosen to participate in Cisco’s program, and be invested in as one of Cisco’s minority-owned small business partners. Programs such as the EMP2 program demonstrate how companies can proactively drive diversity in all its forms, including the diversity of CEOs of Cisco’s company partners and suppliers. Leading companies are increasingly investing in incubator programs such as these, which encourage the participation of more diverse voices from the company’s existing supplier base.”

JBC has been assigned a key executive-level resource to enable the company’s exposure at Cisco, Carlos Dominguez, SVP, Office of the Chairman and CEO. Carlos is an ideal mentor for the effort, as he shares many of the same passions as the JBC team for collaboration, new innovation strategies, and the role of technology in enabling a more engaged workforce.

To find out more about JBC’s unique approach to developing leaders, harnessing the power of teams, and channeling the energy of diverse workforces towards real impact, please contact us, at www.jenniferbrownconsulting.com.

Jennifer served as Honorary Co-Chair for the 2009 National Dinner: An Evening of Courage! held on Friday, Nov. 6 at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. As a leadership and diversity consulting firm, one of JBC’s goals is to provide forward-thinking organizational practices that foster diversity, leadership and innovation to meet business goals, and it is our privilege when we get to serve on the front lines in honoring organizations that work in the same way!

The NGLCC is also proud to announce the honorary co-chairs for the 2009 National Dinner—Frank Kern, Patrice Knight, Jennifer Brown and Troup Coronado.

Frank Kern, senior vice president of IBM Global Business Services, has been with IBM for 30 years, during which time the corporation became the NGLCC’s first founding partner. Kern has led IBM’s global sales and distribution organization in the 170 world markets in which the company operates.

Also from IBM, Vice President of Global Supply Operations Patrice Knight has been a long-time advocate for diverse business owners, and currently serves on the board of directors of the National Minority Supplier Development Council.

Brown helps build custom development and coaching programs for business leaders at all organizational levels, with a focus on advising clients on the changing demographics of the workforce, specifically with regard to LGBT issues.

Vice president of external affairs for AT&T, Troup Coronado, oversees the company’s external, charitable and government affairs in the Los Angeles area, and serves as AT&T’s lead executive in managing relationships with national LGBT organizations.

Jennifer Brown Consulting is proud to announce that Jennifer has been named as one of the top 40 Women honored this year by the Stonewall Foundation. There is an event hosted by the Stonewall Community Foundation in December honoring all nominees.

Join us for Stonewall Honors 2009, Stonewall Community Foundation’s signature cocktail reception, awards program, and dance party honoring the contributions of lesbians and other leaders to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community of New York. This year’s event will be held from 7:30 PM to 12 AM.

In celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, the Foundation will honor 40 outstanding women for their contributions to the LGBT Rights movement.
