NEW YORK, NY - FEBRUARY 23, 2012 – One year after its groundbreaking study entitled, “Employee Resource Groups that Drive Business”, Jennifer Brown Consulting (“JBC”), a boutique workplace consulting firm, today announced it has commenced a new initiative focused on “allies”. A term most commonly used in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (“LGBT”) community, “allies” refers to those who don’t identify as LGBT, but who share a commitment to inclusion for all, and who are eager to contribute to corporate inclusion efforts.

Launched in October 2011 at the Out and Equal Conference in Dallas, the initiative includes:

A white paper examining select companies who have successfully implemented Allies programs, plus JBC’s vision of an expanded definition of Allies beyond LGBT;

A new product offering centered on providing expertise, tools and guidance for companies and professionals looking to establish an Allies program; and,

A webinar to spotlight the issue and stimulate discussion amongst thought leaders, Allies, ERG and HR partners.

According to Founder Jennifer Brown, “Thought leadership continues to be a hallmark of JBC, and a part of our ongoing efforts to identify emerging trends for the workforce and workplace of tomorrow. Most encouraging is having sponsors like Cisco and Alcoa, whose unwavering support is a testament to their commitment in the space of “next workplace practices”.

Christopher Thompson, leader of Cisco’s GLBT&A Employee Resource Group, remarked that “Cisco has recognized the importance of allies to help create safe places for people to engage, and even disagree. JBC’s leadership in this endeavor is invaluable and underscores the need for thought leaders to provide perspectives to corporations as they design inclusive and diverse workplaces”. Mary Ellen Lammel, Director of Corporate Human Resources and Executive Sponsor of Alcoa’s EAGLE network, and ally herself, added that, “The Allies program continues to reenergize our shared commitment at Alcoa to LGBT inclusion. We are excited about the opportunity to develop these concepts with JBC to help advance a more inclusive workplace”

Recently JBC has produced research benchmarking studies for ERGs and affinity groups in the diversity space, and this month we are completing work on a survey that focuses specifically on LGBT ERGs.

Please email david@jenniferbrownconsulting.com to indicate your interest in taking our survey. We expect to publish a link to the survey to those interested.

JBC is conducting its LGBT ERG survey to help Diversity and Inclusion Managers best leverage the power of their LGBT ERGs and affinity networks. We’re reaching out to LGBT employee groups to gather best practices that will help create business alignment for all ERGs, ultimately strengthening not only diversity goals, but industry-level ROI. In an effort to help leaders develop, enhance and leverage the expertise of LGBT ERGs, JBC is looking to our network of diversity leaders to share insights on the best practices of LGBT ERGs.
