Director of Marketing
Naakai Addy joined JBC in 2021. Naakai grew up in a Ghanaian-American family in Southern California. After graduating from Phillips Exeter Academy, she studied Linguistics and Spanish at the University of St. Andrews and earned her B.A. from Wesleyan University. In college, Naakai discovered her passion for disability rights activism and, in addition to her advocacy to create more equitable university policies, she led an on-campus support group for students with disabilities.
Naakai has since worked as a marketer, writer, editor, and educator throughout the US and in Mexico, Spain, Norway, and Ireland. Her marketing, communications, and editorial work has spanned many industries in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors; the companies and clients she’s worked with include Education SuperHighway, Story2, Morgan & Morgan, Velocidi, Ruby Labs, UNO Internacional, Universidade de Vigo, Fenyx Consulting, Race Reflections, and RIAI Network.
In her free time, Naakai writes long-form fiction, short stories, and essays that center on themes of black womanhood, disability, experiences of otherness, and queerness and sexuality in the African diaspora. She also takes the occasional dance class and is (working on) learning to cook her favorite Ghanaian dishes. Red red is at the top of the list.
